Welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering, A C Tech campus, Anna University, Chennai. The Chemical Engineering Department of Alagappa College of Technology is one of the oldest departments to offer chemical engineering in India. The department was established under the Madras University initially in 1944 and then transferred to Anna University in the year 1978. Chemical Engineering has been an integral part of ACT campus, Anna University as it is the oldest course offered by the campus. The Department of has been accredited by AICTE as “A” grade and is recognized as DST-FIST Sponsored Department along with being the first Chemical Engineering Department as the first department in Anna University to be recognized for COSIST and DSA programs by UGC.


The Chemical Engineering department of ACT boasts many highly experienced Professors and teaching staffs who help guide students achieve their goals. The Chemical Engineering department of ACT ensures that the students in its field are well versed in both theoretical and practical aspects by offering tools and an environment to help students grow. The department of Chemical Engineering houses state of the Art facilities which help in pioneering research in the field of Chemical Engineering. Research activities in the department were initiated way back in the year 1947 and several pioneering research works was carried out by stalwarts like Dr. G. S. Laddha. The department of Chemical Engineering receives financial assistance from various well known funding agencies like AICTE, UGC, DST, TNSCST etc., which has helped in the successful completion of many research projects.

Higher Placements rates in the state and or the country helps draw in young bright minds willing to shine in this field, this attracts many Industry leading recruiters to the department of Chemical Engineering. Some of the PSUs that have hired our graduates include IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, CPCL. TPL, etc. Our graduates have been placed in many multinational oil & gas and services companies such as Woodp PLC, Technip FMC, Saipem, etc through campus recruitment. They have also been placed in production related designations such as Reliance IL, Vedanta Ltd, Dow chemicals, ITC paper, BPCL, CPCL, TVStyres etc.

This was made possible in past with the help of hardworking and dedicated top management, HODs, faulty, motivated students, supporting staff and the alumni of the department. The environment created by these individuals as a whole nurtures a pleasant learning environment for anybody walking through the door of the department of Chemical Engineering of ACT. Over the years, the department has earned reputation and produced many acclaimed Engineers, Industrialists, Academicians, Philanthropists, Entrepreneurs, Bureaucrats etc which makes it one of the perfect places to study chemical engineering in India. I welcome students and other stakeholders to join with us in growing together.
